Recently, several University community members have received email messages with the subject “MailBox Quota Exceeded” sent from an address outside the University and containing a link to an outside web address.
If you receive a suspicious message of this nature, please do not click on any of the links in the message and do delete the message immediately. The University and IT services will never ask users to click on a link to submit personal information within an e-mail message. Please call Technology Service Desk at Ext. 2222 if you doubt the authenticity of any messages you receive.
Do not respond to any e-mail that asks for personal information OR to click on a link. They are phishing scams designed to trick you into revealing sensitive personal information (e.g. passwords, credit card numbers, and Social Security numbers) that is then used for fraud or identity theft. Phishing typically takes the form of an email message that appears to come from a trusted organization (e.g. your bank, the University) but is actually from identity thieves.
Systems Support is engaged in blocking further delivery attempts and is deleting messages that have been delivered to the University community.
